Kanye West - Stronger

Akira/Stronger comparison shotI curse Kanye West for bringing back those dumb-ass Venetian Blind sunglasses.  It was the "Stronger" video that made them popular again with the easily gullible set.

That aside, "Stronger" is a slick video that deliberately nods to classic anime cyberpunk film Akira.  From the Japanese lettering font to the fact that they actually used a Japanese motorcycle gang as extras, there are a bunch of little easter egg visuals matched to the original nihilistic film.

The video has an added bonus in the form of arguably the poster-children cyberpunk band Daft Punk (whose song is heavily sampled in the track) controlling and monitoring machinery that upgrades Kanye's body, making him a hip-hop super cyborg.

Over all, the video is kind of silly.  The lyrics of Stronger aren't exactly deep.  The imagery isn't original.  But it is pretty, the tune is catchy, and the video is a decent signpost to direct people to Akira.
