Cyberpunk comic art for a good cause!

Arnold Trinidad Cyberpunk sketch

When Arnold Trinidad of Spent Pencil Studios decided to spread some good karma, he convinced Francis Manapul (The Flash), Agnes Gargowska (Girl Comics) and a host of other fantastic artists to come together to donate sketches for Sick Kids.  They raised a ton of money for a good cause and created some fantastic art out of the deal.

As per Arnold:

It all started with me being volunteered to be a committee member for our particular group in RBC. The moment I attended the first introduction meeting, the idea of raising funds by way of doing a sketch-a-thon was already instantly in my head. Actually, it was already a work in progress. I had asked Vince [Sunico]'s cousin, who is a nurse at SickKids, to do some inquiry on how to go about doing some volunteer work. The motivation behind that will be told later. Fortunately, this came about more quickly.
The show itself was a success, according to all that attended. Everyone loved the idea as well as all the artists involve. It was a good talk of the office for that week.....and still. People are already inquiring if it will happen again...I told them only IF they ask me again. We raised a modest $1380.00 for that day. I say not bad for only charging $5.
As for the motivation itself, Vince and I were waiting for his cousin one day at SickKids. We were at the lobby. Sitting there and watching some of these kids being wheeled down by their parents out of their room just to probably catch some air. It made me feel bad for them. All that energy you have as a kid should be spent playing and running around, not limited to a room connected to tubes or life support system. What else has these kids got to entertain them. Looking up, I noticed a mural of superheroes....that's when it hit me...Simple as that. Why not bring them something they can aspire to. Some professionals may not have the time to actually make the time (I stand corrected, Francis is a trooper), but we at Spent Pencils can definitely fill in.
I originally intended to just have Spent Pencils do the event, fortunately we expanded our invitations to our other artist friends.

Cyberpunkcomics.com was able to snag a couple of cyberpunk sketches as well as a great group photograph of the assembled artists (thanks to Arnold).  Arnold, Vince Sunico and Marvin Law came through with some kick-ass sketches which they agreed to share with all of you meat puppets!

Enjoy!
